Klopp sends selfie to centre-back to seal Liverpool transfer

Posted by

Ragnar Klavan was so surprised Liverpool wanted to buy him in 2016, he demanded proof that the man he was talking to was actually Jurgen Klopp.

(In fairness, many Liverpool fans had to do some serious Googling when our interest in the Estonian proved genuine…)

Klavan has claimed Klopp sent him a selfie during their initial discussions so he knew he wasn’t the victim of a cruel prank.

“Yes, I did not believe it,” he told BT Sport, cited in FourFourTwo.

“I asked for some kind of confirmation so Jurgen sent me a selfie!”

The ageing defender has started Liverpool’s past five games, and before last night, was doing well.

We only conceded one against Maribor, Huddersfield, West Ham and Southampton, but in the Champions League – we let in three at Sevilla.

Klavan was far less culpable than our left-back Alberto Moreno, but failed to properly clear the corner which led to the injury-time equaliser.

Long-term, he probably won’t have a spot in Liverpool’s first-choice starting XI, but his decent performances this season have seen him on the way to gaining cult status.

He’s a decent backup, anyway, but needs to be properly upgraded upon in January.
