Rich Liverpool make approach for elite DMC; Van Dijk will be delighted – Report

Liverpool are not necessarily going to throw all the Coutinho money on a direct replacement, but could instead spend it on bolstering much required areas of the squad.

One position we need a top signing is holding midfield, with Jordan Henderson often injured and criticised even when he is fit to play.

Italian outlet Premium Sport are claiming Liverpool have made a direct enquiry to Roma regarding Kevin Strootman.

Strootman is a friend of £75m Virgil van Dijk from the Netherlands squad – and would complete a hat-trick of Dutchman at the club with Gini Wijnaldum the current longest serving.

Emre Can’s Juventus salary has already been decided… and it’s insane

According to their article, Roma have lost three on the spin and with the 27-year-old making disparaging remarks about squad mentality, he could be allowed an exit – with Liverpool seeing him as the perfect Emre Can replacement.

Strootman is a composed, powerful midfielder who prefers to sit and control proceedings than bomb forward.

Paying the no.6 role, he’s exactly what we need, actually. There’s not too many thrills, but no spills either – able to tackle, battle and pass in equal measure.

Liverpool usually sign players younger than 27, but if we acquired Strootman soon we’d still have him for the best four years of his career.

We hope the report is genuine.

Of course, there’s no guarantee Roma would sell to us again, especially following the incredible success of Mo Salah.

On top of that, we want their goalkeeper Alisson too, IBTimes report.
