‘More like £250k/week…’ Klopp’s eye-opening Emre Can joke startles Melwood press-conference

Jurgen Klopp made reporters laugh today during his press conference ahead of Saturday’s tie with Crystal Palace.

Liverpool’s manager was speaking about the key Premier League fixture due to take place at Selhurst Park tomorrow lunchtime – in which a win would solidify our top four spot.

But as per usual, questions about transfers and contracts surfaced, with Klopp in his usual good form.

When asked if German midfielder Emre Can had indeed asked for £200k/week, as was previously reported, his response was fantastic:

“It was £250k/week,” he joked, before reverting back to the party line…. “Nothing is decided. We are in talks so far.

“It’s open. As long as nothing is decided it’s open. We are in talks with him.”

Although it was a joke, the suggestion is that Can and his representatives certainly asked for a whopping new wage – one that would likely make him one of the club’s very highest paid players.

He’s a serious asset and one we’d still like to keep, but how much longer can we be held to ransom…?

Liverpool are stronger with Can as a midfield option, but losing him is not going to massively affect what Klopp’s trying to achieve.

After all, we sold Coutinho for £142m in January, didn’t replace him and have looked an even better side in his absence.

With Naby Keita arriving, Can needs to make his decision soon so we can deal with it and move on.
