‘Nabil Fekir to Liverpool’ update provided by James Pearce

It seems that Liverpool are very interested in Nabil Fekir, but according to James Pearce, a deal is not nearly as done as his French journalistic colleagues have suggested.

Pearce writes in the Echo that he is “not aware of any negotiations having taken place so far,” although admits we have watched him perform wonders in Ligue 1.

A number of French journalists had claimed that a deal was far down the line, with some saying a fee had been agreed, and others going as far as suggesting Jurgen Klopp has already met with Lyon’s 24-year-old and persuaded him of Liverpool’s project.

It seems they either jumped the gun or that Pearce doesn’t have his ear to the ground on this one.

We trust the Echo correspondent implicitly, but last summer, some of the earliest information in regards to transfer targets came from journalists outside of Liverpool.

For example, most of the reliable Naby Keita news was broken by Guinean journalists who earned a cult Twitter following as a result!

All this being said, Fekir is a tremendous player. He’ll be a terrific asset to our attack in multiple roles in 2018/19 and we really, really hope it happens.

We’ve contacted the French journalists who broke the news via Twitter, and for what it’s worth, they’re very confident that a deal could be done.

Let’s win the Champions League Final and bring in some world-class footballers.
