There is a clear favourite to sign Harry Wilson after three-club shortlist

Harry Wilson looks set for a promotion push as he nears a move to Championship side Derby County.

The Rams have emerged as leading contenders to sign the Liverpool starlet on loan this season after over a dozen potential suitors were whittled down to just three.

Derby are expected to fend off competition from Swansea City and Stoke City for Wilson after his superb impression at Hull City.

Wilson netted seven times over the second half of last season as a natural progression from two prolific years with Liverpool’s U23s.

Though his new temporary home is yet to have been confirmed, the Telegraph’s John Percy has insisted Derby are the obvious favourites at this stage.

Derby’s record of three play-off appearances in the last five seasons bodes well for Wilson’s chances of developing within a competitive environment.

Wilson was left out of Liverpool’s squad for Saturday’s friendly against Bury as Jurgen Klopp preserved his fitness ahead of an expected loan move.

The Welshman started the Reds’ pre-season in emphatic form with two composed finishes in a 7-0 win over non-league side Chester.

His inferior opponents aside, Wilson looked refreshingly comfortable in first-team surroundings and accustomed to the level of quality feeding his movement.

A recent reward of a new long-term deal at Anfield somewhat epitomised the faith Klopp and the club has in the 21-year-old.
