Van Dijk: How Alisson is helping me at the back…

There was a point this summer when Liverpool owned the world’s most expensive centre-back in Virgil van Dijk and the dearest keeper in Alisson, after we’d snared the Brazilian from AS Roma!

Chelsea purchased Kepa before the season began though, taking the gong from Alisson – and some of the pressure in the process.

Alisson made his debut on Sunday against West Ham and kept a clean-sheet in our 4-0 win.

Van Dijk has explained some of the benefits of our new no.1 (who’s wearing no.13 for the campaign).

“He is very good. We speak a lot. He’s very vocal and that helps. It helps me and everyone in the back-line,” the Dutch giant told the Guardian. “His presence is very good as well. He has a lot of qualities on the ball and that helps us playing. We’ve worked on it the whole pre-season and we’ll keep practising. There’s still a lot to do.”

It feels like van Dijk has been at Anfield forever, but we only bought him in January.

Since his arrival, he’s kept more clean-sheets than any other player in the top flight, while Liverpool haven’t conceded a goal at Anfield domestically since February.

Together, van Dijk and Alisson look to have shored us up plenty. If they can remain fit and in-form, we’ll have a genuine chance of silverware this season.
