Liverpool wonderkid promoted as Klopp ‘blown away’ by academy star

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is reportedly now our third choice in that position after wowing Jurgen Klopp and his staff.

The young Irishman is behind Alisson and Simon Mignolet in the pecking order, which the Echo make sound like a recent decision in their report.

They go on to say that Liverpool boss Klopp was left ‘blown away’ by the player, who was one of a number to make real strides towards the first-team this pre-season.

Nat Phillips, Curtis Jones and Rafa Camacho are also mentioned as youngsters who impressed before the start of the campaign, and it’s certainly encouraging to see our academy in such good shape.

Of course, Trent Alexander-Arnold is the latest real success story in that department after his breakthrough last season, while there are high hopes for the likes of Ben Woodburn and Rhian Brewster as well.

Let’s hope Kelleher can be the next to get a look-in in the senior side. While he has little chance of displacing Alisson any time soon, it would be intriguing to see if he could be worth a gamble ahead of Mignolet in cup games.
