Mbappe ‘charmed’ by Klopp in one-to-one meeting; LFC offered mega-wages in 2017

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds host Thomas Tuchel’s Ligue 1 giants PSG in the opening round of Champions League Group C tonight…

The attacking talent on show is jaw-dropping, with Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino spearheading Liverpool and Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Edinson Cavani up top for PSG.

But there’s a mighty interesting report in L’Equipe today which suggests one of PSG’s superstars was actually fairly close to being a Liverpool player, instead!

They claim that in 2017, before his move to PSG, Mbappe held lengthy talks with Klopp and was ‘charmed’ by his ‘eloquence and enthusiasm’.

However, PSG and Real Madrid offered over £150m for his services which Liverpool were unable to match and as a result, we fell out of the running.

It’s no surprise to us though that Klopp did his usual trick with a monumentally talented player… Time and time again, he’s persuaded the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alisson of his project with top European clubs also interested.

And missing out on Mbappe wasn’t a big issue as that summer we secured Mo Salah as our rapid attacker instead!

The Egyptian scored 44 goals in his debut season and has been nominated for FIFA’s World Player of the Year award, so all is well!
