‘Hopefully they don’t have to play…’ Klopp talks team selection v Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp hopes he can return to the same team that has been winning all of its matches in the Premier League.

Last night, we made eight changes and lost to Chelsea in the EFL Cup, but cannot afford to do the same on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.

Klopp says if all goes to plan, the likes of Alisson, Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum will be returning to the side.

“Let me say it like this: hopefully they don’t have to. It was very intense,” he told the official website. “A few of the players who were not involved tonight are not 100 per cent fit, so we will see what we do. But it would be cool if we could make these changes again because not playing for a long time and then playing these 95, 96, 97 minutes and then playing three days later again would, of course, not be pure joy. We have to see. But they did well, that’s good.”

The difference between Alberto Moreno and Andy Robertson at left-back is massive, so we’re especially keen to get the Scot back in the team.

Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah were not on the field long enough to have an impact last night, but will boost us at the weekend.

Virgil van Dijk will lead the defence and hopefully eradicate errors from set-pieces, which is how we conceded our first goal.
