Paul Merson, Arsenal legend and often criticised pundit, has claimed that despite his former club winning ten games on the bounce in all competitions, they’re going to get thrashed by Liverpool.
We take on the Gunners on November 3rd at the Emirates, and many have it down as a even contest following Unai Emery’s superb run since taking over from Arsene Wenger.
But Merson doesn’t see it like that and told Jim White on talkSPORT this morning that Arsenal were extremely lucky to have remained winning while looking so abject defensively.
“Liverpool will win by at least three goals. At least three goals…” Merson stated, before suggesting “Arsenal would be pulling up trees if they finished in the top four this season.”
This seems like an utterly strange way to describe the team you have an affinity with, especially after they’ve just racked up so many wins – but that’s Merson!
In fairness, Arsenal’s backline has been shambolic, but they’ve got away with it due to having incredible firepower in the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Mesut Ozil and co.
In many ways, they’re like Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp last season!
Now though, our defence is superb, marshalled by Virgil van Dijk and we do have the players to put Arsenal to the sword if we create in the manner we’re capable of.
Hopefully we’ll start scoring again in the games against Red Star and Cardiff and be in a position to give Arsenal’s defence a torrid time.
