Liverpool have made the very smart decision to renew Joe Gomez’s contract, despite the youngster still having four years to run on his current deal.
The England international has been arguably the breakout performer of the season, forging a world-class partnership with Virgil van Dijk at centre-back.
In the Premier League, Liverpool have conceded just three goals, which is the best record anywhere in Europe’s top five leagues.
Paul Joyce shared the news on Twitter, much to the delight of Reds who’ve been wowed by Gomez’s improvement.
Liverpool beginning to talk to Joe Gomez over a new contract. Discussions at early stage but club looking to reward his development.

Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino have also extended contracts this year, although we’d love Sadio Mane to follow in their footsteps. Talks have been ongoing for some time, but as of yet, we’ve not been able to find an agreement with his representatives.
Gomez is in a position now that he could well marshall our defence, and England’s, for the next decade, if his progression continues.
He has simply everything a defender needs in terms of footballing attributes, but importantly also possesses a calm head and the kind of composure that Dejan Lovren lacks.
