The two Reds players who are the ‘best in the country’ – and better than Salah

Craig Burley says Virgil van Dijk has been the Reds’ best player this season, with Alisson second-best, eclipsing Mo Salah so far in 2018-19.

The ESPN pundit named all three players in his top-five of the Premier League season so far, with Van Dijk first, Alisson second, and Salah fourth overall. Raheem Sterling was Burley’s third-place option, with Eden Hazard fifth.

Burley was very complimentary of the Reds as he explained his decision to involved the trio in his five selections.

According to The Express, Burley said of Van Dijk: “He has been a Rolls Royce at the back and he’s one of the main reasons why Liverpool are where they are in the Premier League and the knockout stages of the Champions League.”

On Alisson, he added: “I know he made a big mistake in the game against United which he got away with but he’s been brilliant. [He’s] driven them to the top of the league.”

On Salah, he said: “I think his form has got better recently but a little bit earlier this season he was missing a lot of chances, the ball was bouncing off him; he wasn’t holding it up.

“We didn’t see the sparkling Mo Salah that we did last year, which was going to be difficult.”

To have three of the top-five players in the league shows just where the club is heading – we’re top of the league for a reason.

That Salah can place fourth having not hit his best that often shows how good he is too – he might well be top of the list once again by May next year. Another PFA Player of the Year award is certainly not out of the question.
