What is it with Watford strikers and their admiration of Virgil van Dijk?!

Troy Deeny once famously declared our centre-back the best in the business, declaring that he ‘even smells good,’ via talkSPORT.

Now, Andre Gray has joined in, stating that our giant Dutchman is the best player he’s ever come up against.

“Van Dijk. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s fast and he’s good on the ball,” he told YouTube Manny, cited in the Echo.

“I don’t know. I just don’t where he gets his pace from, he must be eating some good food!”

Van Dijk’s certainly been eating his weetabix this season…

The defender has been colossal in virtually every match and we’d go as far to say that he’s been the Premier League Player of the Year so far.

In total, we’ve conceded seven goals in the top flight and are on course to break the record for the best defensive record in Premier League history – potentially beating Chelsea’s legendary 04/05 backline – which included John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho and Petr Cech.

If we’re to maintain our title challenge, we need van Dijk fit for the entirety of the campaign.

With the 27-year-old marshalling our side, anything is possible.

Regardless of who plays alongside him, Liverpool look a solid defensive outfit with van Dijk as its leader.
