Neville: Why I’m ‘worried’ about ‘in control’ Liverpool

Former Manchester United and Everton man Phil Neville has admitted he is ‘worried’ about Liverpool – saying he thinks they have a good chance to win the Premier League title.

He was comparing the Reds’ current squad to the one that came second to Manchester City in 2013-14, and said that without doubt, today’s team are better. It’s hard to disagree.

Van Dijk ‘may become the best Premier League defender of all time’

Neville, via the Premier League’s official website, said: “I know they had [Luis] Suarez, they had Steven Gerrard, but I think they’re a better team [now].

“They’ve got a better squad, they’re playing better football, they’re in control, it’s worrying for us Man Utd fans that’s for sure.”

The major upgrade is in defence, where Virgil van Dijk and Alisson have transformed the side and, as Neville says, put the team in control – we no longer have to score two or more to pick up the three points. Jurgen Klopp and his staff have done superbly to oversee the change in such a short space of time.

It feels like a much more sustainable approach this time around, which bodes well for the future. There is a long way to go in the title race, but Liverpool are in pole position.
