Virgil van Dijk’s season has been so good that he’s now widely recognised as the world’s best defender, before he’s even won any silverware with Liverpool.
He hasn’t played a bad game this term and his form is a huge part of the fact we’re currently top of the Premier League table, holding a seven point lead over Manchester City that could be cut to four if they beat Wolves.

And this that that is doing the rounds sums up his brilliance. Not once has van Dijk been dribbled past by any player at either club or international level in 2018/19. Considering he’s been practically ever-present for Liverpool and the Netherlands, that’s pretty mad.
Liverpool have kept more clean sheets in the Premier League since his debut for the club than any other.
In 31 games across the Champions League, Premier League and on international duty, not a single player has dribbled past Virgil van Dijk this season.

It doesn’t matter who partners van Dijk; when he’s on the field – we look good at the back.
This term he’s had four team-mates alongside him: Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Fabinho.
The quartet have done very well too, bar one game against Manchester City when Lovren had a nightmare.
From February onwards, Gomez will return to full fitness and we expect him to take up the starting position until the end of the season.
