‘We have one rule..’ Lijnders explains his & Klopp’s attitude at Liverpool

Pep Lijnders is one of the best coaches in Europe, and every time he speaks, it’s very obvious to us as to why Jurgen Klopp rates him so highly.

The Dutchman is now Liverpool’s official assistant manager, after Zeljko Buvac officially left his post at the club after being on gardening leave since last April.

Lijnders is superb on the training ground, but also understands people.

In an excellent interview, he has explained his and Klopp’s shared football philosophy.

“Everything starts and finishes with the passion and ambition of the team. Everything about this team is glued by togetherness and by character,” Lijnders told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We know if we give everything, every day, then we can beat probably every team, or at least we can create a lot of problems against them. The boys know that and that’s the only way to prove [it]. 90 per cent of the three points are made in the week before the game, we believe in this.

“Probably we only have one rule: that’s always 100 per cent attitude.

“It all comes together, of course, but it starts with the boys having this passion to be better and better, not just individually but as a group. That drives our development and it’s a big plus for them.”

If Liverpool are to achieve our lofty goals this season, we’ll need not only 100% attitude, but luck, moments of magic and everything in between.

Up against Manchester City, it’s not just enough to be an excellent side – we have to be a great one.

But it’s that kind of challenge which Klopp thrives upon. We wouldn’t swap him for any manager on the planet, and we’re delighted he’s got such a talented backroom team around him.

One day, Lijnders will be in charge of a big club himself – but for now – we’re just over the moon he’s helping Klopp on a day to day basis.
