Klopp makes admission about Salah struggles – but backs his man

Jurgen Klopp admits Mo Salah has performed below-par in the last week, but has backed him to come good again soon.

The Egyptian was fairly quiet against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and was replaced by Divock Origi at Old Trafford against Manchester United today.

Klopp, though, was keen to point out that he has done more than enough this season to prove his quality.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Klopp said: “Mo knows he can play better than he did today. We know he can.

“Two weeks ago, we played against Bournemouth and he was unbelievable. In big games, against Bayern he was up against (David) Alaba who is a world-class player himself.

“It’s about how we use him, how we play him, all that stuff. Today obviously [Victor] Lindelof and [Luke] Shaw together did a pretty good job.”

Salah will be absolutely crucial in the run-in and it will be vital that he finds some form, particularly if Roberto Firmino is going to be out for a period of time.

He scored four goals in one match against Watford last season, and while he is unlikely to match that feat again next Wednesday, finding his shooting boots would be a massive help.

There are 11 huge games to go in this Premier League title race – and Salah may yet be key.
