Klopp says papers will get player ratings for Mo Salah v Burnley wrong

Jurgen Klopp reckons Mo Salah was our Man of the Match against Burnley.

Liverpool ran out 4-2 winners, with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane both collecting braces.

Salah though was involved in all four goals – although he didn’t officially register an assist – which to us suggests that particular metric is occasionally misleading.

Dave Maddock quotes the boss during his post-match interviews:

We’re not sure if Salah was the best player on the pitch, but he put in a very good shift – and anyone who reckons he struggled is simply not watching our football properly.

Salah’s off the ball runs were superb, and the manner in which he pressured the opponents directly led to tap-ins for Firmino and Mane.

In total, Salah has 20 goals this term, 17 of which have come in the Premier League – but he only has one in his past eight matches.

It’s clear the Egyptian would like to be finding the back of the net more – but his return this season is still very decent – considering he has at least nine more matches until the summer – and potentially more if we go further in Europe.

Perhaps the Champions League stage, in Munich with the world watching, will be a terrific time for Salah to find his scoring boots again.
