Portuguese outlet says LFC ‘make bid’ for Benfica ace in confusing article

Apparently you can now write transfer rumours without saying which player has been bid for!

Correio de Manha, a Portuguese outlet, says that Liverpool have made a bid for one of Benfica’s best players, without highlighting the amount of money or the player in question.

That for us suggests they maybe don’t know and are speculating rather than dealing with fact…

The trio of players mooted as maybes are Alex Grimaldo, Ruben Dias and Joao Felix. The former is a superb left-back, and while we do need a replacement for Alberto Moreno – it’s not going to be a very expensive new recruit, which Grimaldo would be.

Dias is a promising centre-back, but again – we don’t need a player in that position for the kind of money it’ll cost.

We have Joe Gomez to come back and partner Virgil van Dijk next season, while Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren are very strong alternatives.

Felix is obviously an exciting potential option. The youngster has the world watching him after his breakout season – and we’d be ecstatic if a move for the mightily talented 19-year-old came into fruition.

His potential price-tag would be enormous though, and could even break our £75m record transfer, currently held by van Dijk.

We’ll watch this space with interest, of course, but are not expecting any big money moves from Benfica players to Anfield.
