(Video) Brilliant bursting run by Joe Gomez during defender’s comeback

Joe Gomez played an hour for the U23s today, and found it very easy going.

The England international started at right-back and strolled through the 6-0 pummelling of a far inferior outfit.

The plan pre-match was to take Gomez off on 60 minutes, and he left after showing some glimpses of why he’s so incredibly highly rated.

For example, the speed of this burst from defence, which you can see in the video below, shows us that Gomez’s injury hasn’t lessened his pace!

The pass that follows it is lovely as well – and should have led to a goal by Curtis Jones.

We’re not sure when to expect Gomez back in first-team action, but reckon he might be used as a right-back until the summer, interestingly – and not in the centre of defence alongside Virgil van Dijk.
