Liverpool’s U23s gave Leicester an absolute battering today, with the help of two full England internationals amongst their ranks.
Joe Gomez started at right-back, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in midfield – while fit again Rhian Brewster was also up top. In a very strong XI, Ben Woodburn started at no.10, Curtis Jones on the left and Rafa Camacho on the right – with prodigal defender Ki-Jana Hoever at the back.
The young Reds ran out 6-0 winners, and in truth, the scoreline could have been much nastier on a Leicester side who were simply not in Liverpool’s league.
Rhian Brewster opened the scoring after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain tried from range, before Ben Woodburn cleverly scored an Eden Hazard-esque penalty – looking at the keeper instead of the ball.

Jones cut in from his flank and fired through a defender’s legs for 3-0, before Rafa Camacho notched a second-half hat-trick.

One of his goals probably belonged to Brewster, but the young Portuguese had to confirm the ball going over the line with a defender closing!

Gomez, Ox and Brewster all came off early, but all three did well and emerged without injury.
Gomez strolled the game, Ox had some nice moments – but Brewster was maybe the best player on the field.
If he doesn’t make the grade, something has gone badly wrong. A jaw-dropping talent.
