Van Dijk has nailed it on Manchester United’s issue

Virgil van Dijk gave a terrific response when asked by journalists if Manchester United could do Liverpool a favour on Wednesday evening.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side take on Manchester City in the Premier League, having lost seven of their past eight games in all competitions.

Liverpool of course need City to drop points in one of their next four matches if we’re to stand a chance of winning the title – with most presuming the midweek fixture will be their toughest.

Following United’s 4-0 weekend defeat to Everton, they now need a victory to have any chance of a top four finish, which van Dijk has pointed out.

“They need to do themselves a favour,” the brilliant Dutchman said, reported in Football365.

“Everton is not easy to beat at home, but 4-0 is a big result.

“We have no influence on that, but they are still playing for Champions League football and they need to get a result.”

It’ll be strange watching a match and desperately wanting United to win – but when the title is at stake – it’s a small sacrifice!

In all honesty though, United are a poor outfit, and City are exceptional – so it’s not like Solksjaer’s men will take points off Pep Guardiola’s just because they want to.

We’re actually holding out more hope that Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City might have more chance in May – but it’d be foolish to look that far ahead just yet.
