Former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho has reportedly agreed to join Arsenal on a loan from Barcelona, seemingly ending the rumours of an Anfield return.
The Brazilian international has surely had eyes for the exit door since the Catalan club confirmed the signing of World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann.
This news, as per L’Equipe, will come as a surprise to Liverpool fans, as the Reds were lacking in goals from midfield and some supporters have been vocal in their frustration.
Jurgen Klopp’s team were crying out for a creative midfielder, in the absence of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and an inconsistent debut season from Naby Keita.
Coutinho’s contract at Barcelona is still set to run until the the end of the 2022/23 season, but it now doesn’t seem likely that his future is at the Camp Nou.
Liverpool fans that were hoping for an Anfield return for the Brazilian will be devastated by this news, if it’s indeed to be believed. Seeing him in an Arsenal shirt would sting all that bit more.
It is a little bit of a shock that it’s the Gunners that have reportedly agreed a deal for Coutinho though – unless they’re thinking of using him to replace Aaron Ramsey in midfield.
