‘Everything is different’: Jurgen Klopp raves about exciting midfielder who could be set to ignite this season

Jurgen Klopp says the 2019/20 season is a ‘big opportunity’ for Guinean midfielder Naby Keita, who will be looking to kick on from his first campaign in English football over the next 12 months.

Keita came in from RB Leipzig with huge expectation placed on him, but he managed only 33 appearances for the Reds across all competitions last season as he picked up a few niggling injuries, including missing the Champions League final in Madrid.

The number eight also picked up a knock at the Africa Cup of Nations that means his pre-season has been disrupted. Klopp, though, believes he is in a strong position mentally and physically to really push on and progress.

According to LiverpoolFC.com, Klopp said of the midfielder: “He looks completely different. This pre-season [he] looks completely different.

“He was now only the last two weeks in but you could see already that he’s much more settled in the team: completely different body language and everything is different. We expect a lot and he expects a lot – and rightly so.”

It will be interesting to see if Keita starts tomorrow night against Norwich City at Anfield. It’s exactly the type of game that he should thrive in, so we certainly think he should be playing.

There are a lot of options available to Klopp in midfield, but if Keita is going to fulfil his vast potential, then he needs to be getting on the pitch in matches like these.
