Liverpool’s U23s beat Southampton 4-2 last night, with Rhian Brewster, Curtis Jones, Pedro Chirivella and Luis Longstaff getting onto the scoresheet for Neil Critchley’s side as they earned a first win of the season.
There were a couple of impressive performers on the night, but it was captain Jones, the 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who stood out for a lot of Reds fans who were watching the match.
Jones got himself a goal, netting after Chirivella had played him through with a delightful through-ball. You can watch that strike by clicking here.
The Scouser bossed the game at times, though he does have a tendency to hold onto the ball slightly too long at times. He clearly has a lot of talent.
These Reds supporters reacted on Twitter to Jones’ showing and were thoroughly impressed.
Curtis Jones needs regular first team football IMO. He’s too good for U23 football.
Still a bit narrowminded, but difficult to blame him when he’s clearly the best on the pitch.
A loan would do him well#RedmenFamilyDK #RedmenFamily #LFCDK #LFCFamily #LFCAcademy #Redmen #LFC

Played well so far, impressed by Harvey Elliot and Curtis Jones…
Rhian Brewster though… He's top level already, should be starting first team games https://t.co/Mvk3O6rvIH

Jones might benefit from going out on loan to the Championship at some point in the near future. For now, though, he just needs to keep performing at U23 level as he has been.
The U23s face Manchester City next in Premier League 2. That game takes place at Anfield on Saturday night, but does clash with the first team match at Burnley.
