Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale says Alisson Becker is among the stoppers transforming the discipline.
An impressive passing ability, in terms of both vision and execution, is increasingly being expected of ‘keepers.
This is as a result of many teams’ intention to emulate top sides by playing out from the back.
And Ramsdale, the Bournemouth no.1 thus far this season, says Alisson, together with compatriot Ederson, have set an example for others to follow.
“The way the game is going now, it’s just totally different,” the England U21 international told Sky Sports.
“You’ve got the two at the top – Allison and Ederson, who are probably out there on their own at that side of the game.
“First and foremost though, you do still have to try to keep the ball out of the net.”
Alisson of course excels in that respect too, boasting a peerless save percentage of 77.1% in his first season in the Premier League.
Many Reds would therefore label him the best in the world, and it’s interesting to note how that discussion has changed now to incorporate not to just the basics, but the ‘keeper’s ability to kick-start attacks.
