Liverpool were considering a move for Chelsea’s Emerson before they signed Andrew Robertson from Hull City, according to The Athletic (via the Metro).
Emerson caught the Reds’ eye during the 2016/17 campaign, having made 36 appearances and scored one goal for Roma.
But any possible move was scuppered by an anterior cruciate ligament injury which befell him in May and would ultimately rule him out until December.
Liverpool committed to an £8million deal for Robertson which would prove to be one of the best bargains in recent Premier League history.
Emerson then went onto sign for Chelsea in January 2018 for a fee of £17.6million.
The Italian international has now established himself as a starter under Frank Lampard and looks a solid player.
While Robertson was likely among a number of names on a shortlist of solutions to what was a long-standing left-back problem, it’s fair to say the club wouldn’t exchange him for anyone right now.
