Charlie Nicholas thinks Pedro and Willian will be able to feed Tammy Abraham the ‘killer passes’ needed to beat Liverpool on Sunday.
The Reds travel to west London for our sixth Premier League game of the season, having so far won them all.
Nicholas thinks the Reds will stumble, strangely noting that an ‘open game’ will suit the hosts…
“I think Frank Lampard wants to attack, which opens up the counter-attack scenario for Liverpool. They both got bad results in Europe through the week, they are making mistakes that they didn’t make last season and you can get at their defence,” he wrote in his Sky Sports predictions…
“Pedro and Willian behind Tammy Abraham is a trio of danger. They need to find the killer pass in this game, which I think they will. Liverpool will pin them in when they can, but it will be an open game of football, which will see Liverpool drop their 100 per cent record.”
Whenever teams play open football against Liverpool, they lose. In fairness, they normally lose anyway, but Nicholas’s comments about how Chelsea’s attackers are the ones to fear when we have literally the world’s best front-three in our side are bizarre!
Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip will be keen to make up for their midweek performances against Napoli, while Andy Robertson will similarly have the bit between his teeth.
Gini Wijnaldum will return to the side, most likely alongside Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in a central three, allowing Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino the forward roles.
Chelsea away is the toughest game we’ll have to play so far this term, but the truth is that we’re superior all over the park.
Hopefully N’Golo Kante won’t be passed fit as he makes an enormous difference to Lampard’s side when fit. Their best defender Antonio Rudiger though, is out.
