Leicester City fullback Ben Chilwell, arguably the second best left-back in Europe right now after Andy Robertson, has revealed a conversation he had with the first!
The England international has explained how he spoke with the Scot at Trent Alexander-Arnold’s 21st birthday meal – and was inspired by Robbo’s rags to riches story.
“It feels possible, too, because I look at a guy like Andy Robertson at Liverpool. He has a great story, right? Almost quit, like I did, kept at it, pushed himself past the limits he thought he had, and now he’s one of the best in the world,” he wrote in the Player’s Tribune.
“I had a good chat with him a few months back at Trent Alexander-Arnold’s birthday dinner.
“Anyway, I spoke with Andy for a bit and I told him he’s class and whatnot and he said the same to me. It was really cool to chat with him. And just to sort of pick his brain for a bit about football, it meant a lot to me.”
Jurgen Klopp infamously wanted Chilwell [Metro], who’s genuinely terrific, but we have no complaints about the current incumbent of our left-back spot!
Robbo has been playing with an injury recently, but still been largely faultless as the red machine has piled on.
Ahead of the Merseyside Derby, we’re eight points clear of Leicester and Manchester City, but have a game in hand on the latter, who we expect to be bigger challengers overall for the title.
