Milner jokes that Klopp signing new LFC contract depended on him

There is a feel good vibe going around Anfield at the minute, as both Jurgen Klopp and James Milner have signed new deals with Liverpool.

The boss will remain with the club until at least 2024, and the midfielder will be playing for the Reds until he’s 36 – which means an extension until 2022 for Milner.

The announcements from the club came in quick succession, as we’d only just managed to settle down from the Klopp news before the No.7 was pictured with his new contract.

It’s been well established that Milner has a cracking sense of humour, and the Liverpool man may have told his cheekiest joke to date.

The midfielder has suggested that Klopp signing a new deal was dependent on whether he was going to sign his! Obviously he’s joking, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it had an impact!

The Yorkshireman is ageing like fine wine at Anfield, and it doesn’t look like he’s slowing down any time soon. His versatility and leadership qualities also make him a valuable asset.

When Milner first came to the club, and was given the No.7 shirt, I was so disappointing – I’d only ever seen him as an average midfielder, but I could not have been more wrong.

Not only has he wore the shirt better than I – and I’m sure many others – expected, he’ll go down as one of the best No.7s in the Premier League era at Anfield.
