Some Liverpool fans may fear what the summer holds now that we are from certain in securing Champions League football but Ian Rush has his hopes pinned on one man being able to convince potential new signings.
Speaking with BBC Sport, the Welshman said: “When you are signing players it does help when your team is in the Champions League because all the top players want to play there. Klopp though is a fantastic manager and he is in a position to change a player’s mind.
“He can say ‘listen, you want to come to Liverpool and while you will not be in the Champions League this year, we want to make you a superstar for all these fantastic fans and build a team around you’.

“He did that exactly when you look at [Virgil] Van Dijk – he could have gone to Chelsea and Manchester City were interested, but Klopp sold Liverpool to him. That is what Klopp is good at.”
We all know that once Jurgen Klopp is allowed the chance to try and ‘sell’ Liverpool to any potential signing, he normally does more than a good job in being able to do so – something that is largely down to factors beyond his control.
We are one of the biggest clubs in the world, blessed which a rich history, fanatical fan base, enviable trophy cabinet, recent success and a star studded dressing room – all before you even factor in the charismatic German.
This isn’t to downplay the role of the 55-year-old but rather to say that the club does a lot of work for itself and then he can come in and use his charm and CV to convince anyone that this is the place to be.
If we continue to finish the campaign strongly, have a real summer of strong investment and make a good start to the new Premier League season – there’s no reason why we won’t be back at the top of the tree.
Anyone who fails to see how desirable the Reds are anyway, doesn’t deserve to be at the club.
