Manchester City reportedly chasing Raheem Sterling and two Liverpool targets

We all know Liverpool are in need of a summer revamp but there is perhaps one Premier League side who needs one more. Manchester City’s ageing squad have certainly shown plenty of signs of creaking this season, while Manuel Pellegrini is running dangerously low on home-grown players.

The rumours regarding City and Raheem Sterling have been circling for some time now, dating back to his infamous contract interview with the BBC, while the Daily Mirror believe that they’re also chasing Burnley striker Danny Ings and Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez.

If this quite plausible story is to be believed, the news could come as a huge blow to Brendan Rodgers, who’s reportedly anxious to revamp his side with the additions of ‘marquee’ signings during the summer window (via Sky Sports).

While neither Ings or Rodriguez could realistically be labelled as ‘marquee’, they both would have added some much needed fire-power to a Liverpool strikeforce that has managed just 13 goals in all competitions this season.

Ings, who was linked with the Reds back in early February (via the Daily Mirror), has scored nine goals so far this season to give the Clarets a faint hope of Premier League survival.

Rodriguez first came to our attention last season (via the Daily Star). While our interest has since waned due to a season-long injury, it’s not unthinkable to imagine Rodgers re-entering the chase for his signature once he proves his fitness. The one-time England international scored 17 goals last season.

Unfortunately, the Mirror believes that City are considering moves for both players as Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko both edge closer to an Etihad exit. Whether the Reds will be prepared to be drawn into a bidding war over fees and wages remains to be seen.
