Klopp knew about ‘absolutely superb’ Lallana at Southampton

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is glad Adam Lallana is finally getting the credit he deserves following the playmaker’s recent Fan’s Player of the Month award for March.

Klopp was speaking ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Tottenham on Saturday, and took time to praise the 27-year-old attacking midfielder.

Lallana was outstanding in March, winning Man of the Match against Manchester City and Manchester United, assisting and scoring goals as well as working incomparably hard.

“I’ve had a few nice surprises since I’ve been here,” Klopp told the Echo.

“I knew more about him when he played for Southampton. I’m really happy that a few more people recognise what a great player he is. He’s really a good player, and a nice guy! He’s absolutely superb.

“Congratulations! Hopefully he can win again in April – it will be good for us!”

It’s interesting to see that Klopp was keeping tabs on Lallana while he was at Borussia Dortmund. For the Saints, Lallana earned a place in the Premier League Team of the Year and a £25m switch to Anfield, but for a number of reasons, he became a scapegoat for poor Liverpool performances and representative of the damaging summer 2014 transfer window.

Klopp’s helped Lallana find an identity at Liverpool, and he’ll be a key player for us until the end of the season – as well for England at the Euros – with Roy Hodgson starting him twice in succession for the Three Lions during the international break.
