We owe Wrexham £50,000 after our backup goalie Danny Ward made his competitive international debut for Wales against Slovakia in EURO 2016.

Ward played the game after regular Welsh number one, Wayne Hennessey, missed out with a minor niggle. He has since returned to the bench.

It means the fee we paid for Ward is quickly starting to add up.

According to the Echo, we paid £100,000 to bring Ward to the club from the Wrexham academy in January 2012. We then paid a further £100,000 when he made his senior debut against Bournemouth at the end of last season, and we now owe another £50,000.

It’s money well spent, however. Ward impressed greatly when he was given a chance in the first team at the end of last season, and was also one of the standout performers as Wales beat the Slovakians 2-1 in their Group B opener.

Ward is expected to spend next season on loan at Huddersfield.
