Ibe-Bournemouth transfer takes interesting Liverpool deal swap off the table

Jordon Ibe’s imminent transfer to Bournemouth from Liverpool has taken what could have been an interesting swap deal off the table.

As The Guardian reports, the 20-year-old winger is on course to join Bournemouth in a £15m deal, but things could have been very different.

The Sunday People, cited in the Liverpool Echo, claim that Rafael Benitez was planning on asking his former club for Ibe in exchange for Georginio Wijnaldum.

We have been linked with an interest in the Newcastle United midfielder after deals for Piotr Zielinski and Mahmoud Dahoud seemingly reached a dead end.

But the Echo claims that Newcastle are asking for £30m for the 25-year-old, who scored 11 Premier League goals in his debut season as the Magpies were relegated.

Obviously that is a ludicrous price but something like £10m plus Ibe might have made Wijnaldum an attractive proposition. Bournemouth’s swoop has put pay to that.

Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on Wijnaldum, according to the Echo, which is only going to hike up his price. Can’t Newcastle take Mario Balotelli instead?
