German reports link Liverpool to excellent playmaker prodigy

Liverpool have asked Schalke about the availability of 20-year-old playmaker Max Meyer, reports Bild, although in truth – we don’t believe it for a second!

Meyer is an attacking midfielder and can do a job on either flank, but we’re so well stocked in these positions, especially with Gini Wijnaldum arriving, Bild’s claim that we’re contemplating a £25m bid makes no sense.

Meyer has long been touted as a future star, coming from the same production line as Julian Draxler and Leroy Sane, but with the first of those already departed and big clubs chasing Sane – Schalke would be loathe to lose Meyer as well.

We have Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana, James Milner, Sadio Mane, the incoming Georginio Wijnaldum, Lazar Markovic, Sheyi Ojo and now the emerging Ovie Ejaria in attacking midfield – and there’s simply no room for another young, talented star who won’t directly improve our starting XI.

Bild have a reputation for churning out some rather ambitious transfer rumours, and this seems like one of those, for us.

If we’re going to strengthen any position, it’ll be fullback – as Jon Flanagan’s potential departure to Burnley leaves us short in both positions with little backup to Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno.
