Liverpool U18s beat Manchester United 4-3 at The Academy in Kirkby in a dramatic affair on Saturday afternoon.

Layton Stewart scored the goal that won it for the young Reds, but Liverpool found themselves in front on three other occasions in the game.

The Reds took the lead twice in the first half, before United bounced back on both occasions with goals of their own just moments after Liverpool’s. The story was much of the same in the second period as well.

The Reds’ goals were scored by Matteo Ritaccio, Fidel O’Rourke, Niall Brookwell and the aforementioned Stewart.

The game ended in a disappointing fashion as all the majority of the players on the pitch getting involved in dramatics, following young United man Reece Devine being given his marching orders for a foul for his antics late on.

Billy Koumetio, recently signed by the club after a trial period, made his first appearance for the U18s – the 16-year-old is held in high regard and typically plays as a centre-back.

The youngster held his own on his first game for the Reds, and he’ll be hoping to prove his worth to the coaching staff and get a chance to work his way up the ranks.
