Liverpool challenge old boss Rafa Benitez for Andre Ayew transfer

Andre Ayew transfer: Liverpool and Napoli are set to battle it out to sign Olympique de Marseille star in January.

Liverpool are ready to compete with SSC Napoli for the signing of Olympique de Marseille winger Andre Ayew, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Serie A giants are currently managed by former Reds boss Rafa Benitez, and indeed, we were linked with a move for Ayew back when Benitez was in charge at Anfield.

However, Ayew’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and Marseille are reportedly keen to offload in January while they can still earn a transfer fee for him.

With Napoli set to bid just £1.6 million to sign Ayew in the new year, the Ghana international should be well within Liverpool’s transfer budget.

Ayew would offer some pace and penetration to our attack, which I think we can all admit has not been as exciting and fluid as last season.

The 24 year-old doesn’t always keep his head in the final third, and can be accused of making poor decisions, but he would undoubtedly be a useful option.

At less than £2m, he would certainly be worth the risk.
