Reports in the Daily Mirror explain that Glen Johnson, Jon Flanagan, Kolo Toure and Brad Jones will all be free agents come the end of the season, while five other have just 18-months left to run on their current deals.

Rodgers is seeking to avoid a repeat of the scenario that saw captain Steven Gerrard agree to join LA Galaxy on a free transfer earlier this month, with the afore mentioned quartet all eligible for pre-contract agreements.

Jordan Henderson, Martin Skrtel, Jose Enrique, Sebastian Coates and Rickie Lambert are the other players facing an uncertain future, with vice-captain Henderson and centre back Skrtel both integral parts to the current Reds’ set-up.

Quoted by the Mirror, Rodgers said: “We can’t have three or four leaving – it is about the needs of the team.

“The intention is to keep the senior players because of the mix of the group. For our young players to develop, they will need seniority around them. You can’t just have a group of young players.”

Full-back Johnson, who is currently sidelined through injury, has regularly been linked with an exit from Anfield in 2015, but it now appears as if Rodgers would prefer to keep him at the club.
