Evans isn’t fond of Sakho…

Tony Evans, football editor of The Times and well-known Liverpool fan, has branded French centre-back Mamadou Sakho ‘an accident waiting to happen’ via his sportlobster account.

The journalist was answering fans’ questions as part of a Q & A session, and surprisingly criticised the in-form 24-year-old.

“Sakho still looks like an accident waiting to happen and I’m not convinced but it’s working at the moment, so can’t complain. The club hierarchy are delighted he, Can and Markovic are doing so well,” he said.

While Sakho does look a little awkward on the ball, his performances since his return from a lengthy injury have actually been nothing short of excellent. He’s slotted into the back-three expertly on the left-hand side, and played a vital role in the fact we’ve conceded just seven goals in ten matches since the turn of 2015…

The statistics back it up too. While Dejan Lovren has made six defensive errors this term, and Martin Skrtel has made four, the Frenchman has made just two – and his pass completion ratio is an excellent 88.9% as well.

Some Liverpool fans are still unconvinced, but Sakho should be judged on his positive effect on the team, rather than his unorthodox style.
