Liverpool transfer rumours
The England international was unavailable for selection in the UEFA Europa League in the second half of 2013, as he was cup tied after featuring in the UEFA Champions League for Chelsea earlier in the campaign.
Sturridge’s goals last season helped propel us into Europe’s top tier once again this term, but injuries kept him out of the entire Champions League group stage, and it’s hard not to wonder if we’d still be in the competition had our chief goal threat been available.
While our disappointing performance away to Real Madrid was perhaps the hardest game to watch from a fan perspective, Sturridge has missed just being on the pitch.
“I’ve waited such a long time for this game,” said Sturridge to the Daily Mail.
“I just want to get out there now and hopefully have some success with the team.”
“It wasn’t just the Bernabeu that was difficult, every game was hard to watch.”
Should Sturridge stay fit though, we’ve got a real chance of pushing for the trophy.
He is likely to play a role against Besiktas at Anfield this evening.
