While the entire Liverpool team are refocusing on our goal of reaching the Premier League’s top four – with our chances having been revived by Manchester United’s recent poor run of form – Martin Skrtel also has his eyes on another prize and is determined to help his teammate win it.

Simon Mignolet currently leads the ‘Golden Glove’ standings, having kept 14 Premier League clean-sheets so far this season. Ahead of this weekend’s games, Southampton’s Fraser Forster is second with 13, while Manchester City’s Joe Hart, Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois and Swansea City’s Lukasz Fabianski all have 12.

With just three games remaining and Forster out for the year with injury, the Belgian is the heavy favourite to claim the award – in a result that would see us win the prize for the fourth time in eleven years, with Pepe Reina having won it three times in a row between 2006 and 2008.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s game at Stamford Bridge, Skrtel explained why the Reds are determined to help Mignolet complete a wonderful second-half of the season.

He told our official website: “It’s always nice to get a clean sheet, and Simon is at the top of the list. We will try to help him and we hope and believe he can win it.

“That will be one of the messages for the last three games – but not only for these last three games as we try to keep clean sheets as often as we can. At the moment we’re doing pretty well and we want to carry on in that way.”
