A ludicrous report has today claimed that Liverpool transfer target Eduardo Salvio’s agent is already on Merseyside tying up a big-money move to Anfield.
According to the Daily Express, the 24-year-old has a buyout clause in his contract that means that we would be able to tie up a deal for £40m, however circumstances may mean that his supposed transfer could cost less.
His current club Benfica may have won the Portuguese title for the second successive season, but the team are experiencing some financial difficulty, which the Express suggest may force the side into a quick sale at a cut-price.
Even so, it is difficult to imagine that we respond to yesterday’s defeat by instantly opening the chequebook without actually analysing the places that we need to strengthen. Salvio is a talent that would no doubt improve our squad, however we already have a cluster of exciting wingers and creative players that have been the shining light in a tough year.
There therefore seems little point spending a large chunk of money on a position that we already have the most strength.
