Mario Balotelli has thanked Liverpool supporters, and suggested that he is planning to have a much better season next year with a bizarre post on Instagram.
The Italian posted a picture of himself – in his Liverpool kit – shackled, looking out onto Wembley Stadium, with the caption suggesting that he was looking to let loose in the hope of guiding us to silverware.
Despite the way this season ended, it is important to remember that we reached the semi-finals of both domestic cup competitions, and qualified for the Europa League.
And it could have been better had Balotelli himself not been incorrectly flagged offside when played through during the FA Cup semi-final with Aston Villa last month. If he had been allowed to continue, then we may be talking about a different outcome in that game, and reflecting upon our season in a different manner.
It may also have been the catalyst to inspire a new lease of life for the 24-year-old. His goalscoring tally is certainly not enough to suggest that he has justified the decision to bring him to the club, but he has shown an attitude in recent weeks – when he has played – to suggest that he is working hard to help us, and change opinions of him in the process.
Let’s hope he can finally back up his undeniable talent next year. In the meantime, here is the post:
