Mamadou Sakho’s ACL is ‘ok’, but he’ll be out for 6-8 weeks

Mamadou Sakho’s knee injury is thankfully not as bad as first feared.

The French powerhouse, arguably our best player so far this season, hobbled out of the defeat to Crystal Palace in the first half on Sunday, and there were rumours he’d ruptured his ACL – just like Joe Gomez and Danny Ings did earlier in the campaign.

The Echo confirm that while he hasn’t ruptured the ACL, the scans have revealed damage to a join in the right knee. Dom King from the Mail went one step further and named the 25-year-old’s time on the sidelines: 6-8 weeks.

The news is by no means good, but considering Sakho left the ground on crutches at the weekend, it’s perhaps the best we could have hoped for.

In his absence, Dejan Lovren is going to have to finally step up to the plate. There’ll be no more chances for the Croatian, who’s currently one of the biggest wastes of £20m in Premier League history. It’s up to him to prove supporters wrong.
