Liverpool have already won by appointing Klopp as our manager, according to Borussia Dortmund star Jakub Blaszczykowsi.
“He’s a very smart and positive guy,” the Echo reported him as saying. “Liverpool couldn’t have hired a better manager. They have already won by appointing him. He was, he is, and he always will be a special guy.”
Blaszczykowsi was one of the German’s most trusted lieutenants during his time at Dortmund, playing for Klopp during all seven seasons that he was in charge, and winning two titles along the way.
“He’s changed me, not only as a footballer, but as a human being – no one had more influence than Klopp on who I became as a player. I owe him a lot”, he went on.
“I’m pretty sure he will succeed – but only if the players buy into his philosophy,” he added. “That’s what we did at Borussia and it paid off. He’s not only a great coach; he’s a great psychologist, and a great man.”

We are already seeing results of the psychological side of of Klopp. The likes of Lallana, Moreno, and Ibe are playing their best football so far in a red shirt, while Lovren and Mignolet were both praised in the media to stunning effect. Even Origi, who looked like a lost nomad under Rodgers, has found his feet, bagging a hat-trick in our 6-1 League Cup quarter-final win on Wednesday.
We all knew Klopp was a genius tactician, but this other side of him is probably something that many of us didn’t really appreciate during his time at Dortmund.
Let’s hope he can continue to work his magic with some of the other players as they return from injury – with Flannagan and Ings being two players who could presumably really benefit from this kind of tutelage.
