Alex Teixeira on the brink of £38.4 million move to China

And so it happens again.

Diego Costa, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Yevhen Konoplyanka… Who else?

Be honest – how many of your really believed we’d land Alex Teixeira? We’d been there so many times, a “marque” signing, someone who could push us on to the next level in the areas we desperately needed. Ian Ayre packs his bags, flies to some far-flung foreign land, comes back empty-handed, and then bam, the player goes somewhere else.

Now, it seems, lightening has struck yet again. Alex Teixeira is on the brink of a big money move to China, according to the Echo.

That’s right, the very same Alex Teixeira who “dreamed” of a move to England to boost his Brazil chances, is now moving to Chinese Super League outfit Jiangsu Suning.

Erm… who?

James Pearce isn’t the only one reporting this. Le Equipe in France are talking about it, SkySports are talking about it, just about every news outlet worth its salt is talking about it.

Perhaps we dodged a bullet, perhaps we royally messed up – who knows. What is increasingly clear, however, is that Ian Ayre cannot and should not be trusted with our transfer negotiations any longer. He messes up too often, too many players “get away”.

We have to get someone new in place ahead of what is shaping up to be the most important summer transfer window for the club in living memory.
