Liverpool set bizarre club record which involves Joe Allen, Christian Benteke & Jose Enrique

It was always going to be an impossible job for one man alone to replace the influence of Steven Gerrard as Liverpool captain.

So we have split the burden eight ways this season – setting a club record for the most skippers the Reds have had in one campaign!

Jordan Henderson’s fitness issues mean that he has only worn the armband in 14 of our 41 games in all competitions this term.

Official vice-captain James Milner has actually skippered us more times than Henderson – stepping in for him on 16 occasions.

Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho, Lucas Leiva, Joe Allen and Christian Benteke have also led Liverpool at one time or the other.

Even Jose Enrique, who has only made three appearances all term, had two of them as captain in the FA Cup against Exeter City.

Could we reach double figures by the end of the campaign? Martin Skrtel or Jon Flanagan could be on duty for the cup competitions!
