When James Pearce of the Echo and Chris Bascombe of the Telegraph agree on a transfer story, it’s almost certainly got some legs.

Today, they’ve both claimed that Liverpool are confident of sealing a £20m deal for Mario Gotze this summer. The 23-year-old playmaker  has been told by Bayern Munich’s incoming manager Carlo Ancelotti that he’s surplus to requirements, and with Gotze’s contract expiring in 2017, he’s available for a cut-price fee.

The news broke of Ancelotti’s opinion on Gotze last night in German publication SZ Sport, and thankfully, those claims have been backed up by utterly reliable Liverpool sources.

Jurgen Klopp’s a massive fan of Gotze, and it looks likely now that he’ll reunite with the scorer of the winner in the 2014 World Cup Final – whom he guided to European recognition during the pair’s time at Dortmund.

It’s that club which could rival us for his signature, but with BVB fans openly against the move and Dortmund signing Ousmane Dembele (despite our reported interest), we’re surely in pole position to secure Gotze.
