Liverpool submit new planning application – next phase in Anfield redevelopment being considered

Posted by

With the new Main Stand still on course to be more or less completed in time for the start of the 2016/17 Premier League season, attention is now turning to the next phase of the ongoing redevelopment of Anfield.

According to the official site, we have now submitted another planning application to Liverpool City Council.

Sadly, it is not an application for an expanded Anfield Road end, though that remains the club’s long-term ambition. Instead, it is for a new “fan zone”.

The club wants to create a “dedicated facility” for the supporters to gather and enjoy festivities before and after games.

It will include:

  • Food and drink stalls
  • A stage for pre-match entertainment and interactive fan activities
  • Pop-up retail units for the sale of official club merchandise and matchday programmes
  • An LFCTV matchday television studio
  • A new club store

It is thought the application will not even be considered by the authorities until later this season, meaning there is no way it will be ready in time for next season’s big kick-off.
